Global Solar Atlas (2018)

Amount of solar radiation received by a horizontal surface. Measured in kWh/m2. We used the long-term average of GHI from 2007-2018.

Preference for areas with horizontal irradiation ranging from 1,400 to 2,500 kWh/m2. Higher irradiance corresponds to a higher score.

Elevation

NASA Digital Elevation Model (2000)

Vertical distance or height of a specific location relative to sea level. Measured in meters.

Preference for areas with elevation ranging from 0 to 1,500 meters. Lower elevation corresponds to a higher score.

Slope

Computed from NASA Digital Elevation Model (2000)

Inclination of steepness of a surface or terrain. Measured in degrees.

Preference for areas with a slope ranging from 0 to 15 degrees. Lower slope corresponds to a higher score.

Distance to substation

Estimated based on OpenStreetMap (2022)

Distance to estimated locations of transmission substations. Measured in kilometers.

Preference for areas with distance to substation ranging from 0 to 100 km. Lower distance corresponds to a higher score.

Distance to road

OpenStreetMap (2022)

Distance to major roads passable by vehicles. Measured in kilometers.

Preference for areas with distance to major roads ranging from 0 to 5 km. Lower distance corresponds to a higher score.
